Web 2.0 Next Manifesto

Express yourself. Connect with others.

Web 2.0 gave everyone a chance to become a creator. We recorded our thoughts on blogs, shared our work on personal websites, and found each other through blogrolls. Behind every URL is someone’s experience and judgment. Every link can express appreciation and trust.

Today, AI makes creating and building websites more accessible. Agents are becoming another way to discover content, understand people’s work, and find collaborators.

Together, we are building Web 2.0 Next to carry the spirit of self-expression and connection into the age of agents.

We want everyone to have a home on the web they can keep updating. Through content we maintain ourselves, agents can better understand what we care about, what we have made, the views we hold, and the people we might meaningfully connect with.

Here is what we can do together:

  1. Have a website of your own.

Start with a page about yourself. Add projects, writing, and experiments over time, giving your voice a lasting home.

  2. Share something real.

Share firsthand experience, work you have actually made, and independent thinking. Use AI to help you express yourself, while taking responsibility for the facts, views, and sources you publish.

  3. Let people and agents get to know us.

Introduce yourself clearly, give your work context, and support your views with evidence. Choose what you make public, and keep that information accurate, current, understandable, and easy to reference.

  4. Use links to express appreciation and trust.

Recommend writing you have read, creations you have tried, and creators you appreciate. Let people discover each other through links, and let agents understand these real relationships.

  5. Build together, and keep growing.

Help a friend publish a website, respond to something someone shares, or update your work. Let the directory help people discover each other and spark conversation and collaboration between websites.

Web 2.0 Next is the next chapter we write together.

Update your website, publish your work, link to people you appreciate, and help maintain this shared directory.

Let more people find you. Let agents understand you better. Let the open web grow richer through what you share.

Drop by someone’s website.

Discover real people, the work they make, and their independent perspectives.

Share this site with your agent.

Tell it your website address and what you want to share. Let it help you connect with others.
